SUMMARY As a member of the Harvard Library Finance team and reporting to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Sr. Financial Analyst will provide direct support in preparing fiscal year budgets, mid-year forecasts as well as monthly management reporting and analysis for the Harvard Library and Harvard College Library. The Sr. Financial Analyst will be the financial partner to a designated subset of the Shared Services and libraries, providing a full range of financial support including reporting, budgeting and forecasting, as well as project and fund level budgets as needed. This position will also provide key decision support including creating/updating financial models and operational analysis. Specific responsibilities include:
Support the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis in driving financial processes and preparing submissions for the Harvard Library and Harvard College Library including:
Annual budget process Mid-year forecasts Multi-year financial plans Multi-year capital plans Monthly and quarterly management reporting and analysis Grant and Gift budgeting and financial reporting Partner with designated departments providing full financial support including creating budgets and forecasts at org unit levels as well as project and fund level budgets, understanding staffing activities, understanding actual to budget variances as well as owning any decision support and ad-hoc analysis Provide analytical and quantitative analysis to support critical decisions, resource allocations and fees/pricing Identify, extract, synthesize and/or develop needed data Determine methods and procedures for analytics Build and amend models related to operations, budgeting and decision making Synthesize and quality control findings Develop recommendations and document assumptions and findings Own and drive FTE related-management, reporting and analysis including:
Reconcile and maintain FTE's in budgeting system Monthly FTE reporting and analysis Perform additional ad-hoc financial analysis as needed to inform library leadership and to aid in decision-making Contributes to the overall goals of the department as appropriate Provide support as needed to further the integration of the Harvard Library and Harvard College Library finance organization Typical Core Duties Provide analytical and quantitative analysis to support decisions related to the preparation of the annual budget, mid-year forecasts and multi-year financial plans Develop reporting for use in financial planning May function as subject matter expert and/or project lead Advise unit/school on financial questions (e.g., endowment planning, sponsored awards, and capital planning considerations) in support of financial processes Design and deliver presentations that educate School leadership on key financial issues Work closely with other groups within the school/unit finance area to better understand University-wide financial management issues that inform planning, reporting and analysis Provide staff mentoring and training Ensure financial compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required Minimum of 7 years' relevant work experience Additional Qualifications and Skills MBA or equivalent education or work experience preferred Experience with Essbase/SmartView and Oracle Financials preferred Focus on efficiency and automation in building and enhancing reports and analysis preferred Ability to write Excel macros preferred Working knowledge of libraries, both within Harvard and more general industry trends Self-organized, flexible and able to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously Collaborative working style with excellent interpersonal skills Excellent analytic, written and verbal communication skills Proven ability to deliver quality output within a fast-paced and fluid environment Strong financial skills and understanding of financial tools and analysis Advanced knowledge of Excel required, knowledge of PowerPoint Working Conditions Pending further Covid-19 developments, it is expected that the position will work both remotely and on campus in an office setting. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
