Digital Fabrication Technical Specialist

Job Summary Serves with a small team in a busy, complex, well-equipped graduate school digital fabrication facility (the 'Fabrication Lab', or 'Lab'), assisting hundreds of students and faculty with complex, state-of-the-art fabrication, research, architectural model-making, and construction, utilizing a wide range of materials, methods, digitally controlled equipment and sophisticated software. The GSD Fabrication Lab promotes and strives to develop a self-sufficient community of engaged student and faculty users, and self-service equipment operation; some Lab facilities may at times operate as a staff-run service. Job-Specific Responsibilities In coordination with other Fabrication Lab staff, responsible for safe, educational, and efficient operations of conventional and digital (3D printing , CNC, laser engraving, robotics, etc.) fabrication tools, including related software, programming, and process visualization; Provides training, assistance, consultation, and technical and safety oversight, including evenings and weekends, and overtime as required, to individuals and groups, in support of class work and individual and group research and fabrication projects; Researches and makes recommendations for appropriate digital and conventional fabrication hardware, tools, applications, and materials. Acquires, installs, configures, operates, maintains, and decommissions fabrication tools and equipment; prepares printed, online, and video documentation of tools, materials, methods, policies and procedures for use in safety training and academic workshops; works with vendors, internal and outside technicians, and consultants as required; Develops and implements user trainings, workshops, and operating procedures. Annually trains and oversees numerous (30+) lab assistants, and trains and supports (hundreds of) student users of lab equipment; Regularly maintains records associated with facility usage, equipment and space maintenance, and fabrication services fulfillment; May have special/dedicated responsibility for one or more areas of the Lab's equipment and processes, (e.g. rapid prototyping, laser and 3d printers, digitization, etc.) as determined by the Lab Manager; Attends regular training, educational sessions, and professional conferences to stay abreast of technological developments, safety, and teaching/learning best practices in digital fabrication; In consultation with faculty sponsors, may write grants, proposals, and reports, and may work directly on research projects; Other duties as required. Note:
The schedule for this position is Sunday-Thursday inclusive (Fridays & Saturdays off), afternoon shift (1p-9pm; or similar, to be determined with final candidate) with occasional overtime hours at predictable peak times, as required. Basic Qualifications BA required and 5
years relevant experience, or equivalent. Theoretical and practical knowledge of, and several years' experience with, fabrication tools and processes, especially CNC tools, laser cutting, 3D printing, digitizing, and robotic arms, and related materials, technologies, techniques, software, and programming. Experience managing multiple technical assistants and conducting workshops and safety training. Understanding and tolerance of diversity in a multicultural collective enterprise. Passion for making, teaching, andlearning. Additional Qualifications and Skills Excellent organizational and communications skills. Academic/teaching experience, advanced degree, knowledge/training in materialsscience or mechanical engineering, technological specialization, or experience with architectural/urban/landscape/environmental design a plus. Working Conditions Work is performed in both a fabrication facility (primary) and office setting (secondary). Additional Information NOTE:
This is mainly an on-site position. The interview process and position may be modified and is currently circumstantial, including a mix of virtual and in-person interviews, and remote and in-person onboarding. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
