Technical Associate I, Mass Spectrometry and HPLC

Job DescriptionTECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, MASS SPECTROMETRY AND HPLC, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Biopolymers Core Facility, to provide technical support for wide-ranging approaches in cancer and biomedical research across MIT and the broader research community.
The work will involve highly customized MALDI-TOF and HPLC analysis, located in an in-house chemistry facility, and serving over 150 research groups.
Will operate Bruker Microflex MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer and Agilent 1100/1200 HPLC systems and deliver resulting data.
Other duties include troubleshooting instrumentation and protocols; performing minor repairs; collaborating with team members on problem solving and technical and administrative tasks; maintaining inventory and a clean and safe work area; operating minor lab equipment; tracking work using an operations data management system; providing technical guidance to students and postdoctoral fellows; and training others to perform specific tasks as needed.
May perform duties typically assigned to junior team members as necessary.
Job RequirementsREQUIRED:

S.
degree in chemistry, biology, or similar field; at least two years of experience in a research laboratory environment; self-motivation and demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team; strong instrumentation skills; basic computer skills; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; ability to produce accurate and high-quality work and manage multiple priorities; excellent organizational, analytical, customer service, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; and an understanding of laboratory safety.
PREFERRED:
research experience.
