The Clinical Research Specialist will be based at 2 Brookline Place, working in the lab of Dr.
Charles Nelson.
The CRS will join a collaborative study with MIT investigating neural dynamics relating to two fundamental processes implicated in autism:
predictive coding and sensory processing.
The project will involve collecting EEG data with autistic children, typically developing children and children with Phelan McDermid Syndrome (PMS).
The CRS will coordinate day-to-day study operations, working closely with team members to lead the development, coordination, and implementation of research procedures under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
The CRS will also work directly with families participating in the research study.
The position requires the ability to lead a team, make decisions and take a flexible, creative approach to problem-solving, as well as clear communication of complex study information and empathic listening skills.
Enthusiasm for working with infants and young children is essential, experience working with young children with autism strongly preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities? Assists Principal Investigators (PIs) in planning and implementing clinical research studies as assigned.
Under the direction of the PI coordinates preparation of protocol applications for submission to the IRB, sponsor or regulatory authority.
As directed by the PI corresponds with the IRB, study sponsors, clinical research organizations, study participants and referring physicians.
? Recruits study participants for enrollment in research study.
Follows individual study protocols.
Completes informed consent procedures as assigned.
Organizes strategies for recruiting study participants, screens study participants for eligibility on the telephone, in the clinic and other settings as required.
Completes follow up with study participantsin prescribed settings as required.
? Organizes study procedures and schedules study participants for study visits.
Performs study procedures designated for the Study Coordinator.
? Complies with all institutional policies and government regulations pertaining to human subjects protections.
Monitors the occurrence of adverse events, reporting any to the (PI), the study sponsor and the IRB.
Updates protocol and amendment changes.
? Assists investigators in data and/or document prepraration for journal publication.
Performs literature searches and pulls articles.
Qualifications:
? A bachelor's degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related field AND 3 years of experience or a Master's degree and 1 year of experience? 2-year commitment to the position? Enthusiasm for working with infants and young children is essential, experience working with children with autism preferred.
? Availability for flexible scheduling, including occasional evenings and weekends? Computer skills including working knowledge of PC and Mac operating systems, essential statistics software (e.
g.
, Excel, SPSS), and basic experimental presentation and collection software (e.
g.
, ePrime, Redcap, Matlab)? Ability to assist with grant preparation, publications, presentations and IRB? Background and experience in signal processing and EEG data analysis would be helpful.
