Job Description:

Our client has assembled a team to develop the Shared Research Information Network (SHRINE), a software system that allows investigators to determine the aggregate total number of patients who meet a given set of criteria at five of Boston's premier academic research medical centers.

Using cutting-edge algorithms and electronic medical records in a way that patient privacy is protected, this high profile system makes it easier for researchers to identify potential clinical cohorts for recruitment, generate new research hypotheses or prepare grant applications. This position will be a key contributor to the SHRINE SCILHS project. The Scalable Collaborative Infrastructure for a Learning Health System (SCILHS) project is a nationally leading transformative project. SCILHS will build informatics infrastructure and design regulatory innovation to convert the emerging electronic health record (EHR) into a research tool designed to engage patients and health systems in clinical research at the point of care. The program spans 10 geographically and demographically diverse health care systems.

The Software Engineer will work collaboratively with technical leadership and users in order to design, code and deploy tools and platforms that will be used across the research community and shared nationally. We are looking for an advocate for Agile software engineering practices and tools who is passionate for leading the development and delivery of quality software, and is capable and enthusiastic about working with engineers, testers, and product owners. The team uses Scala as the primary programming language for all server-side and tooling work. Our client wants someone to join the team who is enthusiastic about learning and/or mastering Scala but is also comfortable working in Java and other JVM-based languages.

The Senior Software Engineer has the following
Responsibilities:

Be a key contributor for the Shared Research Information Network (SHRINE) server-side and tooling components
Design, code and deploy an application and associated tools that will be used across the research community
Analyze requirements, develop designs, manage priorities, perform unit tests, and support ongoing QA efforts
Work with a variety of teams from Boston?s five premier academic research medical centers

Basic
Qualifications:

BA/BS in computer science
The candidate will have 5
years of experience in software development and at least 3 years in Java and JVM-based languages.

Additional
Qualifications:

M.S. in computer science or related field is preferred.
Ideal candidates will have personal or professional experience with Scala or other functional programming languages.
Experience working with Agile methodologies (continuous integration, unit testing, SCRUM) is highly desirable.
Candidates should be comfortable collaborating with technical leadership, sponsors and end-users.
Prior experience in the development of biomedical informatics applications and scientific software is highly desirable.

This is a grant-funded position through April 30, 2018 with strong possibility of renewal.
