About the Job :
As the Lab Architect you will be maintaining, configuring, and monitoring the Akamai server labs used by engineering groups to test Akamai products prior to deployment. You will be working with the engineering groups to understand their needs and to explain the capabilities and limitations of the lab. Creating web GUIs and monitoring programs is essential. You will create and maintain command line and web forms for the running and accessing of the lab if required.
About the Team :
You will be a integral member of the Akamai Lab Team overseeing the technical aspects of the lab.
Network maintenance, configuration and design (IP Layer 1-3)
Define, maintain, enhance and develop new lab command line and web tools written in Perl, C, Python, Bash, Ruby on Rails and other appropriate languages for Linux and Cygwin/Windows for use in the lab.
Integrate software tools in Akamai standard environments.
Able to build and maintain a wide variety of Linux and Cygwin/Windows development, test and QA servers with and without software/hardware RAID.
Reach out to wide range of engineers to understand their needs, assist them, and troubleshoot problems.
Handle common questions being asked by new and experienced users and using these interactions to produce documentation which is usable by a wide range of users.
On-call for lab outages
Available outside of normal business hours for conference calls with engineering groups in other offices at mutually agreeable times
Monitor network usage. Build, or work with other groups as needed, to setup monitoring and alerting systems for the lab.
Configure and automate the configuration of servers, VMs, switches,
routers, cameras and rack smart PDUs.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
5
years of experience in the field of software or systems engineering.
3
years experience programming in Perl, Python, C/C+
or Ruby on Rails and other appropriate languages for Linux and Cygwin/Windows.
3
years experience with IPv4 and IPv6, common protocols used by switches and routers.
3
years experience working with switches and routers using VLANs, Port Trunking, LLDP, STP, BGP, etc.
3
years experience with SNMP, SMTP, NTP, LLDP and other common network protocols.
3
years experience with VM technologies.

Qualifications:
Able to lift and install servers weighing up to 70 lb.
Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in
a team environment.
Ability to write accessible and detailed documentation for a wide range lab users.
Analyze and optimize complex network configurations.
