In the position of Principal Engineer, the individual will be responsible for leading SiEnergy's novel thin film solid oxide fuel cell stack design and development activities. The Principal Engineer will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a high profile cross functional role with ample room to grow and requires a high degree of creativity, application of sound engineering principles, attention to detail, and excellent problem solving skills. Job Description:
Lead and own all aspects of design and development of a high performance, durable and low cost, first-of-its-kind thin film based Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) stack. The fuel cell stack design must include a holistic approach with all practical considerations, including but not limited to scale up, high volume and low cost manufacturing, ease of fabrication, installation, and maintenance during the entire life cycle.
Responsible for drawings, prints, and all other aspects of design engineering. Own the entire product design cycle and design engineering processes, including design reviews, drawing releases, and ECR and ECO activities
Develop novel seal design for the high temperature fuel cell stack, lead design driven activities to boost fuel cell performance, durability, and increase power density.
Perform structural design and analysis, FEA, CFD, thermal and heat transfer analysis - all activities to ensure a robust scalable fuel cell stack design.
Own the Bill-of-material (BOM), part numbering, and version control processes.
Lead and own design verification and validation process. Work closely with the test team and lead verification related design of experiments.
Work closely with R&D team for real time product design, development, and implementation.
Qualifications
Must have a strong background and expert knowledge in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and electrochemistry.
BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent areas. Have 10
years of hands-on SOFC experience.
Expert knowledge in thermal and mechanical aspects of fuel cells. Hands-on lab experience with SOFC stack assembly, testing, and post-test analysis.
Strong skills in 3D CAD design software, such as SolidWorks. FEA and CFD experience is a plus.
Understanding of SOFC based power plant design, integration, and operation.
Ability to lead Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and root cause analysis activities.
Proven ability in project leadership and management, and ability to prioritize various tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to teach engineering principles, and provide consulting, coaching, and mentoring to early career scientists and engineers.
A highly energetic, think-positive, creative problem solver with proven track records. Capable of taking a concept and quickly turning that into a design embodiment.
Self-driven and operates with minimal management oversight.
Training in Six Sigma or equivalent quality management tools is a plus.
Team-oriented individual with excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
