Position Overview
Canon Healthcare Optics Research Laboratory is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, document and implement the key components and evaluation equipment of medical mechatronics devices, from initial concept through to commercialization, in collaboration with world's leading medical institutions.
Responsibilities
Directly responsible for design, analysis, drafting, fabrication, testing and documentation of key mechanical components and assemblies for prototype development through commercial release.
Work closely with a collaborators in the medical institutions to characterize the product prototype
Provide mechanical specifications for the mechatronics device from the required functional specifications.
Ensure components and assemblies meet appropriate medical device standards.
Work with electrical and software engineers to define the specifications of the mechatronics device and conduct system integration activities.
Conduct and document feasibility studies, tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, FEA and other appropriate tests on new and improved designs.
Produce assembly and part drawings for components and sub-assemblies.
Conduct mechanical design verification activities for the mechatronics device.
Create the Bill of Materials (BOM) for components and sub-assemblies.
Provide documentation of inventions for patent applications.
Review alternative technology IP as it relates to the design process.
Qualifications
BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
3 years of experience in design of products or prototypes of medical device and/or mechatronics.
Strong modeling and drawing skills using Solidworks, including proficiency with assemblies that contain multiple parts.
Experience with design for manufacturability is a plus.
Proficient with rapid prototyping techniques.
Must be a team player and possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience of designing for ease of use preferred.
Experience working in a FDA regulated industry preferred.
Experience of designing a device working with medical imaging (CT, MRI etc.) preferred
