Senior Software Engineer
We are seeking a passionate, product-focused Senior Software Engineer who thrives on delivering exceptional results and delighting customers. The person in this role will be designing and building products that enable innovation for customers of our Web Performance Business Unit primarily in the publishing space. This role will be on a team building an application framework that can meet the surging demand for data, applications and content that encompass up to one-third of all the traffic on the web. Specific challenges include optimizing delivery of first- and third-party content to provide an instantaneous and responsive experience for sites of Akamai's publishing customers. Given that scale, every person who connects to the Internet will be using your code.
As a Senior Software Engineer you will be responsible for:
Playing a central role in delivering products and services for the Web Experience Business Unit.
Developing new features from conception through release and enhance existing applications while ensuring that Akamai customers have an exceptional experience.
Participating in the design, development, testing and deployment of management, security provisioning, and monitoring applications.
Working in a highly cross-functional capacity, partnering with product management, QA, technical writers, and service delivery professionals.

The Web Performance Engineering team is part of Akamai's Web Division and builds the technologies that power our Web Performance Solutions, including Ion and Alta, all of which improve the speed, reliability, and security of web sites running on the Internet. We enable our customers to grow revenue with fast, personalized web experiences, and we help customers manage complexity from peak demand, mobile devices, and data collection. By leveraging Akamai's global Internet deployment, we can uniquely solve technology problems and deliver unprecedented functionality beyond the limitations of base networking.
Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent or
3 years of relevant experience and a Master's degree in Computer Science or
Relevant experience and a PhD
Required Skills
5 years' experience in development experience with application or service development on Linux/Unix.
3 years' experience with design and development of web- and browser-based applications including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, DOM and browser plug-in architectures
3 years' experience with common Internet protocols (HTTP, DNS, IP, TCP, SSL/TLS)
Desired Skills
Proven ability to make solid, independent technical decisions for high performance, low resource server software
Experience in online advertising
Experience with advertising technology such as publisher ad servers or programmatic or dynamic bidding ad networks
Experience with a scripting language such as Perl or Python
Understanding of Agile software methodology
Knowledge of scalable and efficient data structures and data flows
Passion to understand, learn, dissect and improve new technologies
Desire to work in a fast-paced, results orientated team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude
