Overview
We are seeking talented and innovative Hardware Engineers to design, qualify, and test hardware destined for our growing cloud optimization platform consisting of over 200,000 servers in 115 countries within over 1,400 networks. Work could include developing new hardware platforms, benchmarking and validating pre-production hardware, and developing embedded software to run on hardware destined for Akamai's growing network.
As a Hardware Engineer some of your responsibilities will be to:
Participate in small, efficient, and dedicated hardware/server design team
Create specifications and design documentation for server hardware
Build, test and maintain firmware and BIOS stacks
Perform initial bring-up of new board designs
Validate hardware and debug issues
About the Team
Our Hardware Engineering team is responsible for designing, qualifying, and testing hardware destined for our growing network. You will be a key addition to the small group responsible for developing our next generation servers that will be used to securely enable more than $250 billion in annual e-commerce for Akamai's online retail customers.
Required Education and Experience
BA/BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical field and two years of experience in a professional setting
Required Skills
Minimum of one year prior experience with the configuration, and design of x86-based server hardware
Minimum of two years prior experience with software development in C and/or C++
Desired Skills
Interest in software/hardware interactions including firmware, BIOS and bootloaders
Focus on security, including knowledge of anti-tamper mechanisms, side-channel attacks, reverse engineering and cryptography; experience in creating and defeating such attacks
Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Bash
Experience with embedded OS and good system design principles
Strong communications skills especially with global partners
Detail-oriented, analytical, and results-driven.
